Britney: New Fashions/Child Abuse Claims

BRITNEY SPEARS’ NEW CLOTHING LINE FOR CANDIES OUT TODAY


It’s the best of times and the worst of times for Britney Spears today. July 1, 2010 marks the availability of the fashion line she designed for the Candies brand. The collection is being advertised in a series of ads featuring Spears wearing her designs.

The collection, that includes jeans, jackets, mini skirts and mini dresses, is ready for sale in Kohl’s stores. There shouldn’t be any reason that Britney’s line won’t sell, sell, sell to her targeted back to school crowd. (The fact that the dresses and skirts barely cover one’s ass(ets) shouldn’t stop them from selling – hopefully girls will wear the jeans underneath!)

As if to purposely put a damper on things, Spear’s former body guard, Fernando Flores, has chosen this time to make some shocking child abuse allegations against Britney. According to Flores, she beat one of her two sons with a belt and fed them both foods they’re allergic to which caused them to have reactions. Child services agencies will be investigating the allegations, but come on! If Flores was so concerned about the kids, why would he wait to report these things?

Could it not have something to do with the sexual harassment charges Fernando Flores filed against Britney Spears recently? Flores said he felt pressured to quit, which he did, because Spears’ wanted to sleep with him. (Something about his charges combined with waiting about reporting the alleged child abuse just doesn’t add up somehow.)

Fernando commented to the press that Britney would call him into her bedroom and would walk around naked. However, he also said she would walk around the house naked yelling at the staff and apparently no one else is suing for sexual harassment! Judging by the things Britney wears, or doesn’t, the girl probably just doesn’t like wearing too many clothes…

Madonna’s Dolce&Gabbana Sunglasses Ad

MADONNA IN A NEW AD FOR MDG SUNGLASSES

It was announced in February that Material Girl, Madonna, would be designing a line of sunglasses to be released in May by popular lux fashion house, Dolce&Gabbana. Well, they made it by the end of May and several ads are out similar to the one I included above. Is it just me or is something lacking? I don’t know what it is, but the ad just doesn’t seem creative enough for some reason. (After seeing his creative ad ideas on The Celebrity Apprentice, I’d love to see what Bret Michaels would do with this one!)

The whole look, including the diamond crucifix, screams Madonna as well as Dolce&Gabbana with all the black. So what isn’t working – or again, is it just me? I’ve always thought Madonna was cool, but has she lost her cutting edge? Has she kept too much in a rut? It’s obvious that stars such as Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga were influenced by not just Madonna’s sound, but her look too.

Are the red lips, blonde waved hair, fishnets and black sexy dresses becoming too common and blase? Don’t get me wrong, Madonna looks great for her age and she’s a great talent. She’s a great choice for the Dolce&Gabbana brand. I’m just not sure the ad will convince the target market to buy the glasses. Hopefully I’m wrong. Dolce&Gabbana  (Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana respectively)  must think the Material Girl is right for their brand. The glasses are MDG – Madonna, Dolce&Gabbana with her name first after all.

By the way, I really do think Madonna is cool. If you must know, I actually watched her 80s movie, Desperately Seeking Susan yesterday. (ahh! Confessions…confessions!) It was painful to watch the 80s style flashback, but at least she was cutting edge then. I’d love to see her start a new trend again! She’s a creative and brilliant woman.
