SANDRA BULLOCK: CLASS ACT(OR)

With a Best Actress Oscar win last night for portraying Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock became the first actor to win both a Golden Raspberry and an Academy Award in the same year, never mind the same weekend. She accepted her Oscar in person Sunday night, but also had the class to do the same thing before that on Saturday night for a Razzie for the Worst Actress of 2009 for her role as Mary Horowitz in All About Steve.
Bullock not only showed up to the Razzies, she held the award high on stage and took the time to stand up for herself in a, (yes classy!), and entertaining way. Sandra took on stage with her a copy of the script of All About Steve as well as a cart load of DVDs of the film – one for every person in the room.
She told the Razzie audience: “I will show up next year if you promise to watch the movie and really consider if it was truly the worst performance. If you’re willing to watch, I’ll come back next year and give back the Razzie.”
In All About Steve, Bullock plays a crossword puzzle creator who is also a bumbling stalker of a TV camera operator. In The Blind Side, she is a wealthy, nurturing woman who takes in a homeless black youth. The Blind Side is based on the true story of Michael Oher who became an offensive left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens football team. Although All About Steve was blasted by critics, the film, which was co-produced by Bullock, did make money at the box office.
“I won’t win” Sandra had predicted about her Oscar nom, saying she’s “usually right” about which nominee will win an Academy Award. We’re glad she was wrong this time!
